DELHI, India, CMC – Shimron Hetmyer’s Delhi Capitals teammate, Amit Mishra, has become the latest player in the Indian Premier League to test positive for COVID-19.

The 38-year-old leg-spinner joins Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Wriddhiman Saha who also tested positive on Tuesday, bringing to four the number of players who have come down with the deadly virus.

Organisers pulled the plug on the IPL on Tuesday, saying in a statement they would not “compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL”.

Capitals said Mishra was undergoing medical care.

“Delhi Capitals leg spinner Amit Mishra has tested positive for COVID-19. He has been moved to a designated medical care facility, as per BCCI & IPL guidelines,” the franchise confirmed.

“The Delhi Capitals medical team is in constant touch with Mishra, and ensuring his safety and well-being. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Mishra’s last outing came on April 26 when he claimed a single wicket from three overs as Capitals lost by a single run to Royal Challengers Bangalore in a contest at Ahmedabad when Hetmyer lashed an unbeaten 53.

The Capitals squad had been asked to isolate since Monday when the Kolkata Knight Riders pair of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier became the first players in the tournament to test positive for the virus.

Capitals had been the last franchise to face KKR last Wednesday in Ahmedabad.

Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are high profile players for KKR.

Also on Monday, Chennai Super Kings said their chief executive, Kasi Viswanathan, along with bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a member of the maintenance staff, had tested positive.

Media reports on Tuesday also indicated that CSK batting coach, Australian Mike Hussey, had tested positive but was awaiting a second test to confirm the result.

Veteran West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is on the roster of CSK while former Test captain Jason Holder turns out for Sunrisers.
