De Mattos is new president of Pomeroon Cricket Board

Ernesto De Mattos was elected president of the Pomeroon Cricket Board when the body held elections at the ‘old hospital’, Charity Neighourhood Democratic Council on Tuesday.

De Mattos, who will lead the body for the next two years, was elected unopposed, replacing former Guyana Cricket Board president, Fizal Bacchus.

“I am extremely happy to be elected as your president for Pomeroon cricket, I thank all of you for giving me this great opportunity and I assure you all that under my administration we would work together and see Pomeroon cricket get back to the place it was supposed to be, we would put back Pomeroon cricket to where it belongs and we would continue to move forward,” De Mattos stated in his address.

According to De Mattos, looking at the young and vibrant committee, he knows  that Pomeroon cricket will make progress and succeed.

He also stated that both senior and under-19 cricket, along with female teams will be reinstated.

He encouraged the team to work together and support each other in whatever way to make Pomeroon cricket a success.

He also called upon the various club captains to have their teams reestablished as soon as possible in order to have games.

The position of vice-president was filled by Carlos Thornhill who secured 11 votes after being challenged by Joseph Baird, who received six votes.

Miranda Corriea and Nalini Baharally were elected secretary and treasurer respectively while Sherman Austin was elected marketing manager. Boaz Roberts, who chaired the meeting, was elected as Public Relations Officer.

Eight others were elected  representatives on the various committees including Shawn Marks (Pomeroon Oil Mill), D. Persaud (Jacklow Sports), L. Garraway (Black Scorpion), S. Ramdeen (Eagles Sports Club), K. Williams (Conquerors), C. Thornhill (Tennis Farm), Baird (Jacklow Tallibans) and E. Roberts (Pomeroon Super Kings)

The meeting commenced at 10.00 hours with Ryan Vansluytman functioning as Returning Officer.

Two representatives from each of the eight clubs participated in the elections.
