Guyana to receive 38,400 vaccines on Monday from COVAX

Guyana is listed to receive 38,400 AstraZeneca shots on Monday from the COVAX facility.

This will be a significant boost to the country’s vaccination drive. The allocation was listed on the PAHO website.

COVAX is co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi and the World Health Organization (WHO), alongside key delivery partner UNICEF.

With over 150,000 persons vaccinated, Guyana has clearly begun using second doses – most likely AstraZeneca – to continue inoculation as it currently has shots to fully vaccinate only 130,000 persons.

The 38,400 shots will push Guyana’s total to 298,400 vaccines – enough to fully inoculate 149,200 persons. It means to achieve herd immunity, Guyana still needs around 700,000 more vaccines.
