Jawalla woman, 29, dies from COVID

A 29-year-old woman from Jawalla in Region Seven who tested positive for COVID-19 has died.

According to a member of the Village Council, the woman fell ill a few days ago but her condition rapidly deteriorated as the days passed. Eventually she was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she tested positive for COVID-19. It was revealed that she died during the wee hours of yesterday.

The ministry is yet to send out a statement regarding this death.

During the latter part of March, Jawalla recorded its first COVID-19 case. Since then multiple cases have been recorded. While many have recovered the councillor said, there are still a few positive cases in the village.

However, persons are not adhering to the COVID-19 measures and are refusing to get tested for the virus when they start experiencing flu-like symptoms. Stabroek News was told that during a recent testing exercise 16 persons tested positive for COVID-19.

The councillor added that with so many persons disregarding COVID-19 measures there might be a surge in cases as persons will be gathering for the upcoming Toshaos Election in the community.
