The people of Sisters Village, Good Intent & Wales Community Public School demand vacant lot be transformed into playground

Dear Editor,

The following are the contents of an edited letter addressed to President Irfaan Ali and copied to Ministers Priya Manikchand, Charles Ramson, and Nigel Dharamlall: The people, workers, retrenched sugar workers, farmers, youths and students, from the Good Intent Village, Sisters Village and GV, situated within the Toevulgt-Patentia-NDC and Region # 3, West Bank Demerara, Guy-ana, would like the Ministry of Education, Ministry for Culture, Youth & Sports and the Guyana Government to take over a parcel of Wales Estate vacant land, situated in front of the Wales Community Public School, for use by the school and the community.

This land ownership\title, can be transferred to the Ministry of Education to be used for the children in the public school, youths and residents of this community for recreational sports and community centre, and if possible, also build a ‘Day Care and Kindergarten School’ for the working mothers and parents.

President Irfaan Ali, Ministers Priya Manickhand, Minister Charles Ramson (Jr.) and Minister Nigel Dharamlall, this vacant land is ideal for this school as a community sports play ground because it is situated opposite the school and is separated from the school fence by a small street, south of the school fence. This street (a\k Cinema Street or Pay Office Street) start from the West Bank public road going west, beside the Wales Police Station and pass between the Wales Community Public School and the Wales Estate Pay Office, now closed. This vacant Wales estate land have good drainage, is ideal and easy to prepare and develop for use for the school children and the community for recreational sports, etc., and help to keep them safe, healthy and productive. Since Wales Estate  and Wales Sugar factory closed, there are no vendors and pay office, etc., so it will be prudent and a very good community project that President Irfaan Ali led PPP-C Govern-ment can develop and give to the community that are made up mainly of  sugar workers, farmers, fishermen and unemployed youths. As a Community Worker, former sugar worker, GAWU & Guyana Cane Farmers Association (GCFA) National Representative for many years for Wales Estate Sugar Workers, Sugar Cane farmers, Regional and National Representative (executive) for the Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO), I think that this project will have the support from the majority of the residents, especially the retrenched sugar workers and their family. Also this proposed project will help build cohesion and unity within this Toevulgt-Patentia District and Guyana.

Sincerely,

Balram Balkarran
