Mexico, Costa Rica qualify for Junior Pan Am teams TT tournament

Mexico and Costa Rica were the standout teams when the 2021 CAC teams qualification tournament for this year’s Junior Pan Am games in Cali, Colombia in November takes place.

Playing in the qualification tournament in San Jose on Tuesday, Mexico and Costa Rica reached the final of the event automatically earning the first two spots in the men’s team event.

Mexico and Guatemala the top two seeds drew byes in the first round while El Salvador defeated Panama 3-1 and Costa Rica blanked Honduras 3-0.

In the semi-finals Mexico edged El Salvador 3-2 while Costa Rica edged the number two seeds Guatemala 3-2.

The final was not played.

In the second stage Guatemala beat Panama 3-0 while El Salvador whipped Honduras 3-0. In the final Guatemala joined Mexico and Costa Rica at the games by edging El Salvador 3-2.

In the women’s team event Mexico defeated El Salvador 3-0 while Guatemala blanked Costa Rica 3-0 to book their spots in Cali. In the second stage El Salvador whipped Costa Rica 3-0 to join the other two teams.

In the U21 men’s singles qualification final El Salvador’s Diego Orantes defeated Panama’s Jacobo Vahnish 4-1.

Orantes drew the bye in the semifinals while Vahnish whipped David Sanchez of Honduras 4-1.

In the women’s qualification final Costa Rica’s Nicole Granada defeated Panama’s Lia Rodriguez 4-0.
