Over 200,000 adults inoculated with first dose

-amount represents 41.4% of adult population

Over 200,000 persons in Guyana have so far received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in Guyana as Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony noted that this was a milestone in the country’s inoculation programme.

This disclosure was made yesterday during the minister’s daily COVID-19 update where he stated that so far 201,347 persons have received a first dose in Guyana. “201,347 persons receiving their first dose. That would account for 41.4% of our adult population and now we have to make sure while we continue getting people their first doses we want to also make sure that they come back for their second doses.”

He noted that as of yesterday the ministry has recorded a total of 69,486 persons who have received their second dose and are fully inoculated. This number, he added, accounts for 14.3% of Guyana’s adult population.

The minister again called on persons who have received their first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine to come forward and get their second dose as the Ministry’s records show that a number of persons are due for their second doses and are yet to return.

“Other than that by the end of the week, all the Sinopharm that we have remaining, we will want to start using it and make sure that other people can get vaccinated. So we don’t want to wait now and if you don’t come back within a certain period for your second dose then we will have to start using it for other persons,” Anthony warned.
