Woman, 97, among three new COVID fatalities

Three more COVID-19 fatalities were confirmed on Friday, including a 97-year-old Region Four woman.

In a statement, the Health Ministry, which reported the new deaths, said that they had taken the death toll from the virus to 422.

The statement noted that these persons were admitted to medical institutions with COVID-19 symptoms but died while receiving care.

The 97-year-old woman from Region Four died on June 8, while a 65 year old woman from Region Five died the following day. The third fatality occurred on Thursday and was identified as a 72-year-old man from Region Six.

Meanwhile some 108 new cases of the virus were recorded, thus increasing the total number of cases recorded to date to 18,196. These new cases were confirmed from 1,328 more tests.

The highest number of new cases were reported in Region Six with 41, followed by Regions Nine and Four with 27 and 24 cases, respectively. There are now 1,643 active cases in the country, 102 of which are in institutional isolation, while another 1,541 are in home isolation.

Some 21 persons are currently patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, while 68 more persons have recovered from the virus, thus increasing the country’s total recovered cases to 16,110.
