An unvaccinated nurse was among the COVID-19 fatalities last month, while two unvaccinated doctors are currently in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

A Ministry of Health official has confirmed to Stabroek News that a nurse, who was not yet vaccinated, ended up in the ICU and eventually became one of the more recent COVID-19 fatalities.

In addition, Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Public Relations Officer (PRO) Chelauna Providence has confirmed that two doctors, who are attached to the hospital, are currently at the ICU. They are both said to be unvaccinated.

Up to yesterday there had been 547 deaths and 12 persons in intensive care.

There are currently three vaccines being primarily used for the health ministry’s national vaccination programme. Both first and second doses for the Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines are available but only Sputnik V first doses are available as second doses of the vaccine have been once again exhausted.

Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony has noted that he expects that government will be receiving some additional vaccines, including the one-dose, Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Following the recent changes to the emergency measures, proof of vaccination is now required for operation of public transportation, and entry to restaurants.
