Seven more deaths push September COVID death toll to 88

The Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday announced that seven more persons who were infected with COVID-19 have died, taking this month’s death toll from the virus to 88.

They were all unvaccinated.

In a statement, the Ministry disclosed that the five women who died were from Region Two and Region Four, while the two men were from Region Eight and Region Four.

The deaths occurred between September 10 and September 18. They were all admitted with COVID-19 symptoms but died while receiving care at medical institutions.

Guyana’s death toll to date from the pandemic now stands at 713.

Meanwhile, the MoH’s COVID-19 dashboard yesterday showed that 273 new cases have been confirmed from 2,078 tests. Of the new cases, 141 are from Region Four, 32 from Region Five, 28 from Region Three, 17 from Region Six, 16 from Region Seven, 11 from Region Two, 6 from Region Sight, 5 from Region One and two each from regions Nine and Ten.

There are 32 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Units (ICU), 170 in institutional isolation, 3452 in home isolation and 14 in institutional quarantine.

Based on the dashboards from last Sunday to yesterday, 1,563 new cases were recorded from 11,551 tests done.
