COVID-19 hotspots still present in six regions

As COVID-19 cases in Guyana continue to rise, hotspots remain in regions Two, Three, Four, Six, Seven, and Ten.

This was disclosed during Dr Frank Anthony’s daily COVID-19 update on Thursday when he stated that the hotspots currently remain the same as was previously reported. He noted that while there are several areas in Region Two that have reported cases, there are approximately 37 cases in the Wakapoa area and a total of 157 cases in the region.

The minister added that Region Three, which has seen a significant increase in cases, currently has some 1,414 infections with a number of villages and communities having a high number.

He mentioned the villages and the number of cases that have been reported: Tuschen with 99 cases, Parfaite Har-monie, 67 cases; Vreed-en-Hoop, 60 cases; Parika, 59; Crane, 58; Pouderoyen, 57; Cornelia Ida, 54; Zeelugt, 54; Hague; 46; Westminster, 40; Uitvlugt, 40; La Grange, 39; Anna Catherina, 38; Leonora, 36; Good Fortuin, 31; Sisters Village, 34; and Patentia with 30 cases.

With regard to Region Four, Dr Anthony stated that in Georgetown specifically, there are 685 cases with hotspots in Sophia with 91 cases; Kitty, 45 cases; Campbellville, 43 cases; South Ruim-veldt, 36; Lodge, 34; Cummings Lodge, 32; and West Ruimveldt with 30 cases.

It was further noted that on the East Bank Demerara, cases have been consistently recorded in Diamond, which currently has 60 cases. Grove has 57 cases, Herstelling has 25 cases, and Soesdyke has 25 cases as well.

In the East Coast Demerara area, some of the hotspots were identified as Mon Repos with 28 cases; Haslington, 22 cases; Better Hope, Non Pariel, and Victoria, 21 cases each; and Lusignan and Paradise with 20 cases each.
