A 31-year-old Mackenzie, Linden resident was yesterday granted $250,000 bail after being arraigned on a drug trafficking charge at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Roylon Adolph of Lot 657 Industrial Area appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the charges, he on Friday, 22 October at ‘D’ Field, Sophia, had 4.296 kg of cannabis in his possession. Adolph, who is being represented by attorney-at-law Dexter Todd, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Todd requested that bail be granted and after consideration, the Chief Magistrate facilitated the request with conditions. Adolph is expected to attend the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) headquarters every Friday at 9 am until the case is concluded.

The matter will be called again on November 22 for disclosures.

CANU had stated that ranks were conducting operations at ‘D’ Field, Sophia and carried out a search on a white Toyota Fielder wagon, in which Adolph was identified as the driver. The vehicle was searched and the cannabis referred to on the street as ‘poppy’ was found in bulky parcels. It has an estimated street value of over $1.8 million.

Two others were detained by CANU ranks but no charges have been laid to date.
