I would like to highlight what is really taking place at Puran Brothers.
I read Ms Patricia Persaud’s letter published in the October 23, 2021 Stabroek News on the Puran Brothers company. Several of my relatives worked for the company at various times and I can confirm what Ms Persaud said is the truth.
Editor, my relatives faced risks when working on the roads and at the garbage dump. My relatives did tell me that the safety committee only comprised chosen workers and was dominated by office staff and managers. The ordinary workers did not have any chance to share any views or let their voices be heard as they were fearful they would be sent packing.
I was surprised to learn from Ms Persaud that the company had been awarded for its safety programme. It saddens me to know that these companies are seen in such good light when they are not treating their workers properly.
