Cops hunting quartet over murder of Parika man

Four men are now wanted by police over the murder of a Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) man, who was stabbed several times about his body and chopped to his head after a fight erupted during a drinking session at a shop in the community on Sunday night.

The dead man has been identified as Trevor Allen. His brother, Harvey Allen, who was present at the shop, also sustained a chop to his back in his bid to rescue him.

The attack took place around 20.50 hrs at Parika Façade, EBE.

A police source told Stabroek News that the suspects, who fled the scene on foot, remained on the run up to last night.

According to a Guyana Police Force statement, investigations revealed that Trevor and two of his brothers were drinking at a shop when he got into a heated argument with one of the suspects.

The argument escalated into a scuffle and the suspect punched Trevor to his face, the police said.

Shortly after, the police added, the three other suspects armed themselves with a cutlass and knives and attacked Trevor.

At this point, Harvey tried to rescue his brother and was also chopped.

He jumped into a nearby canal, where he watched the suspects as they continued to assault Trevor, the police said.

While in the canal, the police said, Harvey tried to raise an alarm and the suspects pelted him with bricks.

Residents of the area summoned the police. However, by time they arrived the suspects had already escaped on foot.

Trevor was escorted to Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
