Chess federation to stage three online tournaments this weekend

The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) is scheduled to conduct three online tournaments from November 27th-28th compliments of Mobile Money Guyana (MMG) Incorporated.

This was disclosed by an official release from the GCF.

According to the correspondence, the first event will commence Saturday at 13:00hrs and will be MMG+ Online Rapid Female Tournament. On Sunday, the federation will stage the MMG+ Online junior and senior Rapid Championships from 13:00hrs.

“The junior tournament will be open to all chess players under the age of 20. Time controls for the female and junior tournaments are 15 minutes with two second increments (15 mins + 2 secs), while the senior tournament is 10 minutes with two second increments (10mins + 2 secs). Each tournament will be 7 rounds with prizes awarded for the top three finishers,” the release stated.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each competition. The winner will pocket $10,000 while the runner-up and third place finisher will receive $8,000 and $7,000 respectively.

According to the correspondence, the resulting prizes will be sent directly to the winners’ MMG+ wallets, adding that the event will be hosted on the Tornelo.com platform, with FIDE arbiters John Lee and Irshad Mohamad supervising the respective tournaments.

The tournaments will be hosted on the Tornelo.com platform with National FIDE arbiters John Lee and Irshad Mohamad managing board pairings and supervising games.
