A 78-year-old woman died after a hit and run on Monday on Lamaha Street in the vicinity of Waterloo Street, North Cummingsburg, Georgetown.
The victim has been identified as Veronica Lewis of Lot 411 Grove, East Bank Demerara.
A report from the Guyana Police Force stated that the woman was standing on the southern side of Lamaha Street when an unknown vehicle suspected to be white in colour, struck her down and drove away.
As a result, the pedestrian was left lying on the road with severe head and other bodily injuries, the release added.
An ambulance was summoned and arrived shortly after on the scene. An EMT subsequently examined the woman and pronounced her dead.
The body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour Mortuary by police and is currently awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The vehicle’s licence number and other particulars such as the driver’s name and address are unknown.
Further investigations are ongoing.
