Autopsy inconclusive on toddler found at Land of Canaan

A post-mortem examination conducted yesterday on the toddler, whose decomposed body was found in a canal at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD) last Friday was inconclusive.

The police in a press release yesterday said that Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh was unable to determine the toddler’s cause of death due to the absence of the head. The body of the toddler was discovered around 14.15hrs about fifteen feet from the Demerara River.

At the time, the toddler, who appeared to be between two to three weeks old was headless.

The police had previously said that persons were walking along a trail beside the five-door koker canal at  Land of Canaan, EBD when they observed the body floating. The police were immediately summoned. With the help of a 19-year-old resident, the police had said that ranks canvassed the area and the body was eventually found in a clump of grass in the canal.

The body was examined. However, due to the state of decomposition, ranks were unable to determine whether it bore any marks of violence.
