Prominent attorney denies trying to obstruct justice

The prominent attorney, who is accused of offering a witness in a murder case a “large” sum of money to have her alter her statement was contacted by the police and has since denied the allegation.

This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, who said that the attorney was later released on substantial station bail as the investigation continues.

A man, who was said to be related to the accused in the murder case was also arrested as part of the probe. He too was placed on bail, Blanhum said.

According to Blanhum, investigators are working to wrap up the investigation after which the case file will be forwarded for legal advice.

The attorney and the man are accused of attempting to obstruct the course of justice.

The police in a statement had said that investigations revealed that the woman reported to the police that the attorney and a male approached her and told her that relatives of the accused were offering a large sum of money for her to change her statement.

The woman who is a witness in the murder case which is currently before the court had already given her statement, the police said.
