Centuries from Shimron Hetmyer and Tevin Imlach as well as a five-wicket haul from Antony Adams stole the spotlight on the third day of the Guyana Harpy Eagles’ Best versus Best Four-Day match at the Albion Community Development Centre ground yesterday.

Keemo Paul’s XI, resuming on 154 for two, still 100 runs behind Leon Johnson’s XI’s first innings score,  were indebted to Hetmyer and Imlach who converted their 98-run partnership into a massive 233-run stand that eventually resulted in Paul’s XI reaching 357 all out in 138.5 overs.

Hetmyer, swiftly transitioned from his overnight total of 69 into a top score of 149. His six-hour vigil at the crease saw him hitting seven fours and a six from 256 balls before he was caught by Vishaul Singh off the bowling of Essequibo seamer, Joshua Jones.

Tevin Imlach notched up a century.

With wickets consistently tumbling at the other end compliments of Adams and his left-arm spin, Imalch, who featured in the West Indies Under-19 World Cup winning side alongside his captain, Hetmyer, in 2016 showed grit and continued from his overnight tally of 45 to 106, laced with six boundaries in some 305 balls.

However, with Adams at his lethal best, the lower order was no match as the Essequibo skipper finished with five wickets for 60 runs from 32.5 overs.

Off-spinner, Kevin Sinclair chipped in with 2-91 from 25 overs. Contributions with the bat also came from Junior Sinclair (17),  Paul (14) and Quintin Sampson (13).

Antony Adams bagged 5-60.

Batting a second time Johnson’s XI were eight without loss with openers Tagnarine Chanderpaul and Raymon Perez on four not out each.

The final day’s action resumes at 10.00 hours today.
