8 more COVID-19 deaths, 957 new cases confirmed

Eight more persons succumbed to COVID-19 between Thursday and yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health.

In a statement on Saturday, the Health Ministry reported that the latest COVID-19 fatalities, five men and three women, increased the total number of COVID-19 fatalities recorded by Guyana to date to 1,130.

According to the statement, the deceased are a 28-year-old woman from Barima-Waini, two men, ages 51 and 60, from Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, a 67-year-old woman, also from Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, three men, ages 48, 65, 79, and a 74-year-old woman, from Demerara-Mahaica.

Meanwhile, a total of 957 new cases were also confirmed by the ministry after 3,743 tests were done, according to the updated COVID-19 dashboard. The new cases increased the country’s total number of cases to date to 56, 585.

Region Four recorded the most new cases with 535. Region Three recorded 123 new cases, while regions Six and Eight recorded 67 and 60 new cases, respectively. Regions One and Five recorded 44 new cases, each, while regions Two, Nine, Seven and Ten recorded 31, 20, 18 and 15 new cases, respectively. 

The dashboard also showed 16 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 13,050 persons in home isolation, 177 persons in institutional isolation and 20 persons in institutional quarantine.
