Construction worker dies after stabbed by stepfather

Ranks from the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are investigating the death of a young construction worker who yesterday succumbed while at the Infectious Diseases Hospital after having been stabbed by his stepfather.

Nineteen-year-old Isaiah Edwards, a construction worker of East La Penitence Squatting Area, Georgetown, succumbed while at the Hospital at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara. It is unclear whether the young man is a COVID-19 fatality or he succumbed to injuries sustained following the stabbing.

The police last night put out a wanted bulletin for Shawn Bobb, 30,  in connection with the murder. His last known address is the East La Penitence Squatting Area. Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Bobb is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 227-2603, 226-6978, 226-6221, 219-3252, 227-1149, 225-8196, 268-2328, 268-2298/2222, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station.

According to a police report, Edwards was stabbed, allegedly, by his stepfather on Wednesday at about 18:30 hrs. It was reported that Edwards and his stepfather had an altercation after the man started abusing his mother who had not finished cooking. 

The suspect reportedly became angry and picked up a knife and attacked the mother and son. Both persons sustained injuries while the assailant  fled the scene. Edwards and his mother were transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital by relatives. After arriving at the hospital, both persons underwent tests, one of which revealed that Edwards was diagnosed with COVID-19, the police said. 

He was transferred to the Liliendaal facility where he subsequently died yesterday at noon. His body is presently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.

His mother is presently hospitalized in a stable condition. The police said that investigations are ongoing and are being conducted by Corporal Henry and ranks from CID.
