Two arrested for chopping Corentyne woman

Two women are now in police custody for attacking and chopping a Corentyne woman over the weekend.

Region Six Police Commander Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud yesterday told Stabroek News that the incident occurred sometime last Sunday.

He also confirmed the arrest of the two females and noted that they are expected to face charges sometime today.

The entire incident was video-recorded and posted on several social media platforms on Sunday evening.

According to information gathered, the two suspects and the victim, Amrita Singh, 28, of Port Mourant, Corentyne, reside in the same community and were involved in an argument on Sunday.

The video shows Singh pushing a bicycle through a cross street in Port Mourant when suddenly one woman  appears and strikes her in her head.

In a matter of seconds another female armed with a cutlass quickly approaches the duo and chops Singh in the head causing her to fall to the parapet as she screams for help.

An elderly female could be seen pushing away the two suspects, while several other persons were observed armed with pieces of wood and cutlasses on the road at that time.

Singh was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where she received several stitches for the chop injury on her head.
