Shop owner held, two others wanted after suspected murder at Baramita

Police investigators have arrested a shop owner over the suspected murder of a man, whose body was discovered at a shop on Thursday at Barama Line, Baramita, North West District, Region One.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday said that police from Regional Division #1 are probing the suspected murder of a man of Amerindian descent. The police said that the particulars of the man are unknown at this time. It was reported that the suspected murder occurred on Thursday at Barama Line, Baramita.

The police said that the body which bore several deep wounds to the left side face and head, was found in front of a camp/shop owned by a known man of the said area.  Further, it was reported that the report of the body found was made at about 07:00hrs. Ranks from the Baramita Police Station immediately went to the location, picked up the male, and rushed him to the Baramita Health Centre, where he was examined by the Medex who pronounced him dead on arrival. The body was thereafter escorted to the Port Kaituma Hospital Mortuary.

Meanwhile, the shop-owner was arrested and remained in custody up to yesterday. The police said that efforts are being made to locate two individuals with whom the man was last seen.
