The Georgetown Cricket Association/ Ramchand Auto Sales/Survival Group of Companies/Trophy Stall under-19 50-overs tournament got underway yesterday with 4R Lions and Agricola securing victories.

At the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), 4R Lions stunned the hosts winning by 21 runs.

Sent in Lions made 187 all out in 49.4 overs while GCC were dismissed for 167 in 45.1 overs.

Tomani Ceasar top scored with 46 from 78 balls, decorated with three sixes. He was supported by skipper, Romeo Deonarain who carved four boundaries during his 94-ball 42. West Indies youth pacer, Isai Thorne, chipped in with 33 while Kevin Kesten made 20.

Thaddeus Lovell picked up 3-42 with off-spinner, Krsna Singh and left-arm spinner, Aryan Persaud returning two wickets each.

GCC were rocked early with openers, Shaahid Vieira and Rivaldo Phillips back in the dugout early but a 75-run third wicket partnership between Mavindra Dindyal and Zachary Jodah steadied the GCC innings.

Dindyal hammered four boundaries, all through the on-side and one six before being run out.

Jodah made 22 from 47 balls and fell shortly after Dindyal when he was trapped leg before wicket to Deonarain (2-32).

Lovell kept GCC in the hunt with 53 from 69 balls. He struck four fours and a six over long on to bring up his half century only to give Bruce Vincent (2-20) a sharp return catch to end the innings. Off-spinner, Rashad Gafor troubled GCC and eventually ended with 2-18. Extras chalked up 28.

Meanwhile, over at Queen’s College, the hosts suffered a seven-wicket loss to newbies, Agricola.

QC won the toss and batted but were routed for 72 in 21.3 overs while Agricola worked their way to 74 for three with 29.4 overs to spare.

Agricola’s Andell Manohorilal was the principal bowler, taking five wickets for just nine runs including the wickets of Javid Goodnauth and Ronniel Lord off of successive deliveries.

The visitors gifted 32 extras and only Jadon Alves reached double figures with 26 from 35 balls. His innings featured four boundaries before he was bowled by Manohorilal to end the innings.

In the chase, Alves got his revenge by removing Manohorilal for eight while Laurie Baptiste removed Joshua Narine and Anthony Sundin with successive deliveries to end with 2-9.

However, Joel Gilkes and Shaun Thompson added an unbroken partnership of 51 to see them over the line.

Gilkes smacked three sixes and two fours during his 24-ball 29 while Thompson was patient, hitting three fours during his 59-ball 22. Extras accounted for 14.
