The body of the Corriverton fisherman who allegedly fell overboard on Sunday was yesterday morning discovered in the area where the incident happened in the Corentyne River in the vicinity of Orealla Village.

Fisherman, Shunny Jagessar, 42, of Albert Street, Corriverton, and another fisherman, Rajesh Moses, 50, of Lot 1 ‘A’ Number 79 Village, Springlands, departed the Springlands foreshore in a wooden vessel en route to Orealla Village to fish Sunday around 9 am.

Stabroek News was told, that Moses informed police that around 2 pm they were on the eastern side of the riverbank fishing – he was at the bow area while Shunny was at the back of the boat driving – when he heard a splash in the water.

Upon looking over he claimed to have noticed Shunny in the water after which he “went down.”

Moses told investigators that he made several checks for Shunny but after he did not find him he immediately contacted the police.

This newspaper was informed that Lance Corporal Rohit and a party of police immediately ventured to the location where they carried out multiple searches for the missing man but were unable to find him.

However, relatives and friends continued the search for the missing man on Monday but their efforts were futile until yesterday morning when they returned to search and noticed the man’s body floating in the area where the incident was reported to have happened.
