Noel Anthony Fredericks, the Mainstay resident who was found dead late last month, more than a week after he was last seen died as a result of compression injuries to the neck compounded by blunt trauma to the head, an autopsy confirmed.

Head of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit, Mark Ramotar yesterday confirmed the findings of the autopsy which was conducted on Tuesday by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh.

Fredericks, a 27-year-old miner was last seen sometime between April 14 and April 20 at Toroparu Backdam, Lower Puruni River, Region Seven.

Police had arrested a 29-year-old miner of Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara (ECD), with whom Fredericks was last seen alive.

The suspect reportedly admitted to killing Fredericks and led police to his body which was found in a decomposing state in a hole at Toroparu Backdam on April 27.

In a press statement, the police had said that ranks went into the Toroparu Backdam where contact was made with the suspect.

He was questioned during which he told investigators that on April 15, he and Fredericks were drinking alcohol at a shop in the area.

They then left and he was towing Fredericks back to his (Fredericks’) camp. An argument later developed and he said he choked Fredericks, while simultaneously covering his mouth and nose. As a result, Fredericks died.

The statement added that the suspect related that he tied Fredericks’ hands behind his back and took his body to a hole that was already dug by an excavator and threw him inside and then buried him.
