One-off $25,000 grant for riverain, hinterland households – President

-$1b of fertiliser to be freely distributed to farmers

To counter the rise in the cost of living, President Irfaan Ali today announced a one-off grant of $25,000 for all households in riverain and hinterland areas.

He also announced the purchase of $1b of fertiliser for free distribution to farmers throughout the country.

These two measures will be financed from the $5b allocation in the 2022 budget to ease the cost of living.

The President also announced a housing construction facility for house lot holders. Under this facility, house lot owners can choose house models valued at $7m, $9m and $12m. The government will assist householders to conclude financing arrangements and will then undertake the construction of the house.

Ali also announced the interim removal of the Value Added Tax on sheet rock and concrete board.
