Medical student robbed at gunpoint of car and cellphone

Police are now on the hunt for three men who robbed a medical student at gunpoint of a car and an iPhone.

The incident took place at about 00:30hrs yesterday in the vicinity of Ascension Primary School, Ice House Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Ikechukwu Otiko, of Lot 51, New Housing Scheme, Lodge, a medical student of Rajiv Gandhi University of Science and Technology.

A police report stated that the suspects stole one silver-grey Allion motorcar, PNN 2975, worth $1.3 million, one pink iPhone 7 worth $50,000 and $40,000 cash.

Investigations revealed that the victim was working as a taxi driver when he picked up one of the perpetrators at Survival Supermarket located on Sheriff Street, who requested to be taken to the Ice House Road in West Ruimveldt.

Upon arrival at the suspect’s requested location, the driver stopped the car and was subsequently waylaid by two other perpetrators who arrived on foot.

They pointed guns at the driver and demanded that he exit his car. However, the driver did not immediately comply and a scuffle ensued between the victim and the perpetrators. One of the robbers dealt the driver several blows to his face with a handgun, resulting in him finally getting out of the car.

The three males then entered the car and escaped, taking the afore-mentioned items which were found inside of the vehicle.

The matter was reported to the police yesterday at about 01:30hrs and a party of ranks visited the area.

CCTV cameras are currently being reviewed as investigations are ongoing.
