Two more COVID deaths, 92 new cases

Two more COVID-19 deaths were reported yesterday by the Ministry of Health.

The victims have been identified as two females. A 37-year-old from Region Six, East Berbice/Corentyne and a 79-year-old from Region Three, Essequibo Islands/West Demerara. The vaccination status of the women is unknown.  It was said that they both succumbed on Thursday, May 19th.

As such, the country’s death toll from the pandemic has risen to 1,231.  The deaths come amid a surge in cases and warnings that protective measures must continue.

Following 1,037 COVID-19 tests, 92 new cases were recorded yesterday.

Those new cases came from Region Two, which recorded 4 new cases; Region Three,  7; Region Four,   56; Region Five, 5; Region Six, 17 and  Region Ten, 3.

It was also stated on the updated dashboard that two persons are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Disease Hospital at Liliendaal while 25 are in institutional isolation and 504 are in home isolation.
