Kaituma woman, 50, in custody over fatal stabbing of husband 

A 50-year-old woman of Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD) is in Police custody for allegedly stabbing her husband to death between May 19 and 20, 2022.

The dead man has been identified as 43-year-old chainsaw operator Felix Henry, called ‘Oldie’. His wife is said to be a farmer.

Police said they visited the scene at about 09:50 am on Friday where they observed Henry’s body in a sitting position clad in a blue jersey and blue 3/4 pants in the kitchen area of the makeshift one-bedroom wooden structure. The ranks examined the body and found a wound measuring about 2 inches in length, at the middle of his neck.

A preliminary investigation into the matter revealed that the suspect and the victim shared a 20-year abusive relationship.

In a statement, the Police said that between Thursday and Friday the couple was at their Port Kaituma home, alone, imbibing when a misunderstanding occurred. The suspect claimed that Henry armed himself with a cutlass and chased her around the yard.

The Police said the woman went back into the house and armed herself with a knife and allegedly stabbed him once in  his neck in the kitchen area of the house. The victim then collapsed and the suspect went into the bedroom area of the house and slept.

When she woke up on the morning of May 20, she found her husband lying motionless. Later in the morning, her 28-year-old son went to the house where he saw Henry’s body and immediately visited the Port Kaituma Police Station and reported the matter.

A knife with suspected blood stains was recovered at the scene and the police said that the suspect admitted that it was the weapon used to inflict the wound on the deceased. She was then placed into custody and is assisting with the investigation.

The body is lying at the Port Kaituma Hospital Mortuary awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination.
