A 46-year-old Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara (WCD) resident was yesterday found dead in the Leonora Police station lockups.
Dead is Brian Knight of Fellowship Street, Den Amstel, WCD.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement said that around 13.30hrs yesterday, a police rank made a check in the lockups when he discovered Knight hanging in the cell.
Knight occupied Number One cell of the Leonora Police station.
He was detained for assault/domestic violence allegedly committed on a 42-year-old female.
He was scheduled to attend court today.
The police force has repeatedly come under scrutiny over deaths by hanging of persons in custody.
