Broadcasting icon Raymond `Ray’ Robinson has passed away at the age of 83.

Robinson died  yesterday in New York after  a period of illness.

His cousin and veteran broadcaster, Ron Robinson yesterday confirmed his passing and said the local broadcasting community has lost an icon.

Popularly referred to as Ray, he began his career in broadcasting when the country was still British Guiana and worked as a Radio Announcer at the British Guiana Broadcasting Service (BGBS).

He rose through the ranks and served as the Senior Broadcaster and Senior Producer at the station.

According to Ron, his cousin was a mentor to him and instrumental in his career. He stated that `Ray’ is responsible for training many of the broadcasting veterans of that period.

In a brief Facebook post, Francis Quamina Farrier, veteran media practitioner said he and `Ray’ had been friends for over 60 years. He explained that while working in broadcast, `Ray’ was the person who produced his Radio Programme Series ‘The Tides of Susanburg’ and ‘The Girl from Susanburg.’
