A Venezuelan national is likely to be charged later this week in connection with the murder of 34-year-old Lindsford Kenwayne Duguid, which occurred during the wee hours of Sunday morning De Kinderen.

And the police say they are continuing their search for two others, one of whom is the prime suspect. Regional Commander, Mahendra Siewnarine, yesterday told Stabroek News that the female seen stabbing Duguid in his foot was arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

Duguid came under attack from relatives of a 22-year-old Venezuelan, who Duguid was seen pulling by her hair. Duguid  reportedly shared a relationship with the woman. The third individual, and prime suspect, is a Guyanese who is on the run along with a Venezuelan male. An autopsy performed on Duguid yesterday gave his cause of death as shock and haemorrhage due to multiple incised wounds. The autopsy was performed by Dr. Nehaul Singh.

The police in a statement said that the fatal attack occurred at De Kinderen Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara between 3 am and 3:45 am. On Saturday night, at around 10 pm, police said Duguid visited a home in the Scheme in search of the Venezuelan. Duguid was informed by the landlord that the woman was not at home. The landlord told the police that at about 3.30 am, he heard loud screams in his yard and upon enquiring he saw Duguid pulling the woman by her hair. At the same time, he told the police, one of the suspects (another female Venezuelan national) held on to Duguid’s waist from behind him. The landlord said he rushed to the area and saw Duguid and two of the suspects fighting in a drain.

One of the suspects, who had a knife in her hand, was stabbing at Duguid’s leg while a male Venezuelan suspect was holding Duguid around his neck. Minutes later the third suspect appeared with a cutlass and began to chop Duguid about his body; one suspect was then heard asking for a rope. Another suspect reportedly tied Duguid’s legs with a cord which the suspects apparently secured from a clothes line, the police said.

Duguid’s body was later removed from the drain where injuries were seen, examined and documented, the police said. The body bore multiple chops to the head and a cord was seen tied around his legs and neck. Chop wounds were also seen on the left and right fingers and hand and there were multiple injuries on the deceased’s chest (four stabs) and right leg (three stabs).

The police yesterday said a brown-handled knife, found on the grass parapet about four feet from the body, was collected and labelled.  A search of the drain uncovered a Samsung cellphone and a pair of female sneakers. Additional searches conducted in the De Kinderen yard revealed blood stains that led from a yard pipe to the stairs. The house was also examined and a camouflage pants and one wet white jersey covered in mud were collected.  The rest of the cord that formed a clothing line was also collected and labelled. Checks were also made for one of the suspects at his De Kinderen residence but he was not located. While searching the location, the police found a cutlass near a plastic barrel.
