Guyana’s team to the inaugural Caribbean Games in Guadeloupe got off to a bright start after their most decorated regional track and field athlete, Chantoba Bright has created history by becoming the first Guyanese to medal at the games.

Additionally, the 3×3 basketball team won their first match of the competition.

Guyana’s 3×3 squad 

Paola Fernandes of Puerto Rico leapt to the gold medal while Cremadelly Carrion of Cuba snatched the silver.

In basketball, Guyana kicked their 3×3 campaign in a perfect manner as they defeated hosts Guadeloupe yesterday.

The Guyanese prevailed by a 16-10 scoreline. Guyana is scheduled to battle Cuba in their next match.

The games, which commenced on June 29, will conclude tomorrow.

The region’s Under-23 athletes are competing for supremacy in Athletics, 3×3 Basketball, Cycling, Futsal, Netball, Swimming and Judo.

Guyana is being represented in the disciplines of Athletics, 3×3 Basketball and Swimming.
