Passengers using the ferry services  between Region Two and Region Three are calling on the Ministry of Public Works to institute a fixed schedule.

On Saturday morning, persons showed up as early at 2 to board the Parika ferry to visit Region Two but were the  told that only one boat was working.

The MV Malali was on standby but passengers were told that the Malali is to be used for a cruise today. In the meantime, passengers purchased tickets and had to wait for over eight hours for the afternoon boat. Passengers were of the view that this could have been avoided if there was a schedule.

“It’s a long weekend. Persons want to go home to Essequibo with their vehicles. All of us came since morning and yet we can’t get on the boat, this need to fix”, a passenger complained.

Another passenger said that those persons that did not have a priority pass went into the ferry with their vehicles.

“It’s always happening, someone pays a little extra (and) their family got on, why can’t this fix, why people have to keep suffering”, another passenger commented.

Passengers are calling on the government to ensure they fix the ferry so that both can be in operation. Currently, one of the ferries is docked for maintenance this newspaper understands. Many persons depend on the ferry to conduct business and to travel to Regions Two and Three.
