Norton must rise above the level of a self-miniaturising portrayal

Dear Editor,

There are those who are confused about whether Aubrey Norton’s negative social behaviour represents his egotism, or is mandated by the Opposition he pretends to lead. Even in case of the latter he must rise above the level of a self-miniaturising portrayal to that of a future all-embracing President – a position to which presumably he aspires, and therefore to which his followership should insist he must practise to grow.

He must be reminded, for what it is worth, that his role is not one of an actor on a local stage; but more critically, for all the nation. He must always be seen as a prospective alternative regional and international interlocutor.

In the latter regard his insistence on such depletive behaviour towards his political counterparts by no means accurately reflect the quality of character of many who he is interpreted to represent, even without any prior consultation.

What too many are left to reflect on is the prospect of a future of constipative political decision-making – in the absence of any perceived inter-active team leadership in the first instance; and on the counter-productive relationship he would incite amongst needed decision-making partners of the future.

It was Sir Fenton Ramsahoye who would remind me that: ‘one thing a man doesn’t know is that he doesn’t know’.

His reminder certainly has resonance now!

 Sincerely,

 E.B. John
