Draw held for Guyana Cup Horse Racing Championship

The official draw for the three feature events in the 14th edition of the Guyana Cup Horse Racing Championship was staged yesterday at the Pegasus Atlantic Conference Centre, Kingston.

The three races, which carry a combined purse of  $13,400,000, are the Banks DIH Guyana Cup [$7,500,000], Associated Construction Services Derby [$3,700,000], and Vals Construction Sprint Classic [$2,200,000].

The Banks DIH Cup, which will be 1600 metres in length, will be contested by 11 horses. Lining up in order from stall one, the horses are: Calibogue Sound [Slingerz Racing Stable], Everesting [Master Z], Alado [Master Z], Memories [Shaun Mohammed], Jessica’s Pride [Night Eyes], Detroit Steel [Simply Royal], Queen Domina [Slingerz Racing Stable], Our Stuie [Jagdeo Racing Stable], Settling Star (Asif Kahdeer), two-time winner Vera’s Finally [Jumbo Jet Racing Club] and Wild Texas Tom [Jagdeo Racing Stable].

In the Associated Construction Services Derby Stakes, which is in excess of one mile, the competing horses from stall one are: Like A Million [Jumbo Jet Racing Club], Irish Princes [Owner: N. Dookie], Glamorous Star [A. Rampersad], Amazing Grace [PHVH Racing Stable], Black Time [Shocking Racing Stable], Heartland [Bronson Cheefoon], Judge Not [Martin Pestano] and Color of Sacrifice [Shaun Mohammed].

Meanwhile, seven horses will feature in the Vals Construction Sprint Classic which is 1100 metres in duration. They are in sequential order: Heaven [Jumbo Jet Racing Stable], Lady Bird [Ephraim’s Thoroughbred], Early Bird [R&R Syndicate], Signal Note [Rising Sun], Nuclear Fire [Jagdeo Racing Stable], Regal Intention [Jumbo Jet Racing Club) and Convertor (Singerz Racing Stable).

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) Charles Ramson Jr, stated that the event is another example of a platform which contributes to social cohesion, adding that its budding prominence enhances the regional profile of the country.

President of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC), Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr., thanked the stakeholders for their respective input and support in elevating the event to prominence both locally and regionally.
