China donates to disaster relief body

The People’s Republic of China on Saturday presented  a cheque to the value of US$50,000 to the Government of Guyana to help tackle Disaster Relief and Risk Management countrywide.

The funds were received by Col. (Ret’d) Nazrul Hussain, Director General of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC).

A CDC release said that China expressed an intent to formalize a working relationship with the Guyana Government, via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the CDC, to help in Disaster Risk Management plans. A forum is scheduled for August 25th of this year which will deal with Disaster Risk Management, and China has pledged to share its knowledge and experiences.

The cheque was presented by Chinese Ambassador to Guyana,  Guo Haiyan.
