Local off-spinner, Kevin Sinclair, is back in West Indies colours for the having been out for just over a year and according to the 22-year-old, the feeling is great.

Sinclair featured in six T20Is and was initially selected for the West Indies ‘A’ team currently facing Bangladesh ‘A’. However, things took a turn for the better for the Angoy’s Avenue resident who got a call informing him of his selection to senior side.

On the sidelines of one of his sessions, Sinclair remarked, “Ever since I was out, I never give up, I always believe that I would be back sometime, I just got to keep working, so I just stayed motivated, keep working in the gym and did extra work on my bowling, went back to my club and did some spot bowling.”

Despite being left out of the West Indies squad, Sinclair continued to toil in the first-class arena where he capped off the Regional Four-Day tournament with his maiden half-century in the format, 58, versus Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.

“I’m a confident person, I back my ability and I put in the work both in fitness and bowling so my standard could continue to improve.”

Like Sinclair, Jermaine Blackwood and Yannick Cariah were called in as Guyanese duo, Keemo Paul and Gudakesh Motie, were unavailable due to injuries. For Blackwood, it is the first call up since 2015 while it is Cariah’s maiden call up. Shimron Hetmyer has reportedly pulled out for personal reasons.

The three matches are West Indies’ last remaining three fixtures in the ICC ODI Super League as West Indies aim to automatically qualify for the 2023 ICC World Cup in India. West Indies will be seeking to win the CG United ODI Series to secure one of the automatic qualification places reserved for the top seven teams in the ODI Super League table, excluding hosts India.

The squad reads: Nicholas Pooran (captain), Shai Hope (vice-captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Shamarh Brooks, Yannic Cariah, Keacy Carty, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Jayden Seales, Kevin Sinclair, and Odean Smith (travelling reserve).
