Shore base company sets consultations on road building, dredging

NRG Holdings is inviting the public to attend a meeting to discuss the Vreed-en-Hoop Shore base project in Region Three.

In a notice to the public, NRG said the meeting will be held on Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm. The first hour will be for discussion on the road construction plans and activities for the Vreed-en-Hoop Shorebase Inc Port Project while the second hour will be on the upcoming near-shore dredging in the Vreed-en-Hoop foreshore area of the Demerara River.

The meeting will be held at the Region Three Regional Democratic Council (RDC) office at Vreed-en-Hoop.

For more information persons should contact 608-6002.

It is unclear whether this is a consultation for the Environmental and Social Management Plan required by the environmental permit given to the company for the shore base.

Stabroek News previously reported complaints by fishermen that their fishing grounds have been contaminated by the mud being dredged up. They said it has affected their livelihood.

The shore base, which is being undertaken by Vreed-en-Hoop Shorebase Incor-porated (VEHSI), is a component of the Port of Vreed-en-Hoop project. VEHSI is a joint venture between NRG Holdings Incorporated—a Guyanese-owned consortium comprising Hadi’s World Incorporated, National Hardware Limited and ZRN Investments Incorporated—and Jan De Nul, a Luxembourg-based engineering and construction firm that specialises in marine services, offshore services, civil engineering, environmental management activities and project development.
