The Ministry of Education has signed two separate agreements for human resources development for 2022

Dear Editor,

It is interesting to note in SN of August 13, an announcement to the effect of ‘US $44m Loan signed with World Bank to boost human capital’. This is to enquire whether it refers to that published late July, and which had identified the following targets to be addressed; that is in addition 600 TVET Students and 140 Secondary and Post-Secondary Trainers. The other targets identified were: 60,744 students and 2,128 Teachers and Principals. The subject areas then indicated included:

–  A new curriculum for Grades 7-9

–  Training teachers on the new curriculum

–  Teaching students with different needs

–  Coaching and mentoring teachers

–  Instructional Leadership and Managerial Programme for Principals

The repeated announcement now in August would appear to give the impression that the relevant Ministers are unaware of any action taken since the prior announcement; and more critically that the related Union is caught in this constipative situation – nevertheless described as ‘boosting human capital’.

Sincerely,

E.B. John
