Five Mainstay/Whyaka families receive homes from Food for the Poor

Five families living in the Amerindian community of Mainstay/Whyaka, Region Two yesterday received certificates of home ownership from Food for the Poor (FFTP) Guyana Inc. 

The beneficiaries are Julian Thornhill, Randy Dejonge, Kennard Charles, Elton Fredericks and Rodrigo of Mainstay. The houses were constructed under the General Housing Programme of Food for the Poor Guyana Inc and are equipped with modern toilet facilities. 

Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai along with Chief Executive Officer of FFTP Guyana Kent Vincent joined in cutting a ribbon to officially hand over the houses.

Vincent said that FFTP has constructed over 3000 homes across the country. In Region Two he said over 900 homes were constructed and FFTP will continue to support the vulnerable groups. 

“At Lil Red Village (100), the Essequibo Coast (300) – the Pomeroon River (Karawab,

Siriki, Akawini and Kabakaburi) a total of 147. Mainstay/Whyaka (almost 100 homes now), St.

Deny’s/Tapakuma (50), Capoey (80 plus), Mashabo (70 plus) and Bethany (60)”, Vincent said. 

Each home received one double bed, two single folding beds, a folding table, four folding chairs and a two-burner gas stove.
