The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is working to prepare a preliminary report on its findings from the probe into the incident where a Jags Aviation plane ran off the runway at the Eteringbang Airstrip last Thursday.

In a brief comment to this publication, Deputy Director General Saheed Sulaman explained that the agency’s inspectors are working to put together their findings in a preliminary report, which should be forthcoming soon.

The Jags Aviation passenger aircraft skidded off the airstrip and crashed into vegetation upon landing. No injuries or fatalities occurred.

The aircraft was carrying 11 persons, including the pilot. The police confirmed that all the passengers and pilot were able to exit the plane unharmed.

A police statement said the aircraft, a Britten-Norman Islander plane bearing registration marking 8R-GGT, was piloted by Captain Errol Pearson.

On landing at Eteringbang Airstrip, the police report explained, the aircraft was unable to ‘nudge’ because of the heavy tailwind causing the plane to run into the bushes. As a result, the left wing, nose and left landing gear were damaged.

It was revealed that the aircraft departed Eugene F. Correia ‘Ogle’ International Airport at 14:32 hrs with seven adults and three children as passengers.

Jags aviation is a subsidiary of the BK Group of Companies.
