Gramme of cannabis costs Charity man $30,000, 90 hours community service

A 30-year-old Charity man was on Monday fined $30,000 and ordered to do 90 hours of community service after he admitted to possession of a gramme of cannabis.

Rico Cornelius, a miner of Lot 357 Charity Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, was charged with possession of narcotics.

Cornelius appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court on Monday and he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was fined $30,000 and ordered to perform 90 hours of community service (with no more than four hours per day until completion). Any default on the defendant’s behalf will result in him being imprisoned for three years.
