Second paratrooper injured during rehearsal jump for CPL finals

A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) paratrooper was injured on Thursday during a rehearsal jump at the Guyana National Stadium for a planned show that was to be held yesterday.

A GDF statement said Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Lloyd Souvenir was injured during a rehearsal jump with his team. They were preparing for the Caribbean Premier League finals held last night.

Following Souvenir’s accident, the planned jump for the finals was cancelled.

Souvenir is the second person to be injured in a matter of days during rehearsals. Last Friday, seasoned paratrooper Sergeant Timeon McPherson was injured and hospitalised.

According to the GDF, the injured member was yesterday visited by Chief-of-Staff, Brigadier Godfrey Bess, Senior Officers of the Guyana Defence Force along with the Force Medical Officer.

He is currently hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Lt Col Souvenir, the GDF said, has been in service to the nation for over 28 years and a paratrooper for almost 27 years. He has represented the Guyana Defence Force in numerous countries and is a decorated Jumpmaster.

The GDF on Thursday night issued a notice informing the public that the paratrooper jump that was initially schedule for yesterday afternoon was cancelled. No reason was given at the time for the cancellation.
