CANU intercepts van with cocaine at Goed Fortuin, two men held

A motor van containing narcotics has been intercepted by Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers on the Goed Fortuin Public Road and two men have been held.

A CANU release has informed that during the course of an operation at the Goed Fortuin Public Road, West Bank Demerara, officers intercepted a van bearing licence plate number GAC 8942. The vehicle was searched in the presence of the occupants and two brick-like parcels of suspected cocaine were discovered. 

The occupants, William Mittelholzer, 51, of Lot 179 Republic Gardens, Georgetown, and Anthony Cadogan, 42, of Lot 84 Adelaide Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, were both arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters along with the suspected cocaine.

The suspected narcotics tested positive for cocaine and had a total weight of 2.174 kg with a street value of approximately $2.2 million.

Investigations are ongoing, the release added.
