Father, son seriously injured after chopping at Letter Kenny

A Corentyne man is nursing severe chop injuries while his son suffered a severed hand after they were brutally attacked by two men armed with cutlasses at Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne on Sunday evening.

Injured are Moonsammy Vinod Naidu and his son Veerasammy Naidu also known as “Vinash”, 24, both of Lot 6 Letter Kenny Public Road, Corentyne. Moonsammy reportedly sustained chop injuries to his head and body, while Veerasammy suffered a severed hand.

As of yesterday afternoon police had arrested one suspect for questioning.

According to information gathered, the men were at a location in the village when an argument ensued with the suspects after which the duo was followed home where they were chopped.

Moonsammy’s son Vikash Naidu yesterday explained, that his brother left home on Sunday around 2 pm to attend a wedding. After the wedding his brother and his friends then proceeded to a rum shop in Letter Kenny where his father was at the time.

According to Vikash, an argument ensued between the father and two men at the rum shop after one of the suspects claimed that Moonsammy spat on him.

According to Vikash, his father claimed that he did not and that he apologized to the suspect during the argument and then left the location.

However, moments later they saw Veerasammy rushing home and  he then informed him that the suspect had slapped him after his father left. Vikash said they then saw the two suspects armed with cutlasses heading to their house where another argument ensued which quickly became physical.

Veerasammy was dealt a chop to his left hand resulting in it being severed from the wrist. His father, Moonsammy who then tried to intervene was also dealt several  chops to his head and body before the two men escaped on foot.

The father and son were both rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital by lawmen who were in the area at the time.

Veerasammy was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he remains a patient in the hospital’s surgical ward.
