The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) says it has surpassed its goal of distributing 20,000 house lots  over the life of this administration and promised that next year will see many more achievements.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CH&PA, Sherwyn Greaves, 2022 was an excellent year for the entity. A review of figures on Wednesday showed that more than 20,000 house lots have been distributed  between August, 2020 and the end of this year.

“We have surpassed our targets of 20,000 house lots by the end of this year. We have been able to take thousands of new homeowners to their new house lots so that they can start building,” he said.

In addition, Greaves stated that the CH&PA was able to move hundreds of residents into new homes that were built in partnership with the private sector.

He added that the CH&PA has had many more achievements but Guyanese should expect even more next year.

According to Greaves, the CH&PA would be undertaking massive infrastructural works in existing housing schemes. He noted that there have been many complaints about the road network in several housing schemes and by the end of April 2023, those issues will be resolved.

He added that the entity will also ensure that significant work is done to develop the proposed Silica City.  “So 2023 will be an exciting year,” he said.

On December 13th, during a handing out of house lots at Block D Pln. De Endragt, Minister of Housing Collin Croal had said that  that final exercise would push the Ministry over its 10,000 goal for the year, and peg overall allocations from August 2020 to December 2022 to more than 20,000. Of the total allocations, close to 5,000 persons from the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) benefitted. Additionally, on the ECD some $10 billion has been invested in first-phase infrastructure at La Bonne Intention (LBI), La Reconnaissance, Mon Repos, Annandale, Vigilance, Strathspey, Bladen Hall, Foulis and Cummings Lodge, a CH&PA release had said.

“In 2023, we are projected to spend at least another $10 billion to be invested in new areas such as Hope, Hope Lowlands, Hope Estate, Good Hope and inclusive of where you are going, De Endragt,” Croal said during his address.
