A 30-year-old mechanic was shot three times and a security guard suffered lacerations to his face during an argument over parking in front of the Outside Bar at MovieTowne, Turkeyen during the wee hours of Sunday.

The injured mechanic been identified as Olofi DeSantos of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara. He was shot in his abdomen, chest and left hand during the incident which occurred around 4.30 am.

But before this, security guard Sheldon Adams was struck in his face with a Hennessy bottle. Reports are that DeSantos was in the company of two brothers: Errol Baptiste, a businessman and 29-year-old Erron Baptiste, who are both licensed firearm holders of Campbellville, Georgetown. They arrived at the bar in a Crown motorcar, driven by one of the Baptiste brothers.

According to the police, investigations revealed that DeSantos and the Baptiste brothers arrived at the bar and parked in front of the entrance.

As a result, Adams approached one of the Baptiste brothers who was driving the car and told him that he could not park there. The police said that the Baptiste brothers and DeSantos exited the car and refused to move it.

One of the Baptiste brothers, who had a Hennessy bottle in his hand then allegedly lashed Adams in his face with the bottle causing him to collapse to the ground, the police added.

DeSantos then allegedly pulled out a handgun from his pants waist and discharged several rounds in the area. It is unclear whether the weapon is a licensed firearm.

“As a result, persons that were around, names unknown, also discharged rounds, and (DeSantos)  was shot,” the police said.

DeSantos fell to the ground with the firearm and someone took it away from him.  The Baptiste brother then entered their car and drove away. They were subsequently arrested and their firearms along with licenses were seized and lodged. Their hands were also swabbed for gunpowder residue, the police said.

Both DeSantos and Adams were taken to a private city hospital where they are seeking medical attention.

The incident saw the more than 200 patrons who were present at the bar scattering for cover. The police were summoned. They recovered a total of 12 spent shells and two warheads at the scene.

The motor car was also examined and what appeared to be two bullet holes were seen in one of its doors and trunk. The car was lodged.  The police have since questioned several persons and obtained a number of statements as the investigation continues.
