The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority is to open a sales mission here from today in preparation for the inaugural flight by British Airways on March 27, 2023 between Guyana and the island.

A release from the Authority said that the mission aims to tap into the vastly expanding Guyana market to promote Saint Lucia’s tourism and attract more visitors.

From March 27th,  British Airways will fly to St Lucia then onwards to Guyana. The return leg will follow the same route. Guyanese and St Lucians would then be able to travel to each other’s country more easily.

The mission is led by Lorine Charles-St. Jules, CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, and will include representatives and service providers of the Saint Lucia Hospitality & Tourism Association.

The release said that the mission will partner with the Guyana Tourism Authority to help promote the flight and its advantages to potential travellers from Guyana and aims to increase air connectivity between Saint Lucia and Guyana. The mission will include meetings with stakeholders in the tourism industry, diaspora leaders, marketing activities, and promotional activities.

This forms part of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority’s strategy to increase tourism in the Caribbean region and to promote Saint Lucia as a preferred tourist destination.

“We recognize this as an opportune time for our islands with twice weekly service from London’s Gatwick International Airport to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana, via Saint Lucia, scheduled to commence soon”, the release said.

A seminar and trade fair is scheduled for the Guyana Marriott Hotel from 1.20 pm to 3.45 PM today. Similar events will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Amazonia Mall and the Giftland Mall.
